What is TDEE?

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total number of calories your body burns in a day, including your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and daily activity.

How TDEE is Calculated

Start with your BMR, based on gender, age, height, and weight, then multiply by an activity factor:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise) – 1.2 Γ— BMR
  • Lightly Active (1–3 days/week) – 1.375 Γ— BMR
  • Moderately Active (3–5 days/week) – 1.55 Γ— BMR
  • Very Active (6–7 days/week) – 1.725 Γ— BMR

Why TDEE Matters

  • Maintain weight – consume your TDEE calories
  • Lose weight – consume fewer calories than your TDEE
  • Gain weight – consume more calories than your TDEE
