What is TDEE?
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total number of calories your body burns in a day, including your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and daily activity.
How TDEE is Calculated
Start with your BMR, based on gender, age, height, and weight, then multiply by an activity factor:
- Sedentary (little or no exercise) β 1.2 Γ BMR
- Lightly Active (1β3 days/week) β 1.375 Γ BMR
- Moderately Active (3β5 days/week) β 1.55 Γ BMR
- Very Active (6β7 days/week) β 1.725 Γ BMR
Why TDEE Matters
- Maintain weight β consume your TDEE calories
- Lose weight β consume fewer calories than your TDEE
- Gain weight β consume more calories than your TDEE
